Top 10 Things I Miss About Camp T Kids Already
1. Giving piggy-back rides to kids like Kaiya and Maggie
2. Playing the "go ask a counselor ______ and then come back and tell me the answer" before clinics
3. Heart-to-hearts with River kids like Nicole and Abbey that are far more wise then people give them credit for
4. Making top 10 lists with CILT girls at night
5. Living in constant community with at least 11 other people and sometimes with 48 others
6. Hugs from kids like Olivia and Kaya and Oksana every time they see me
7. Hanging out with Warrior girls like Kiersten, Caroline and Alex that I've known since they were Braves, when our paths cross at the pool or the lake
8. The way campers' smiles stretch across their face and they literally glow when they finish a hip-hop or drama performance and they are so proud of themselves because all of camp is standing on their feet to cheer them on
9. One on one talks with CILT girls like Abby and Caroline and Maddie and Lizzy and Erin and Michelle and Ali and Irene when they realize something really true about themselves or God or friendship
10. Playing with kids like Carolyn and Lilly that are experts at having fun and loving people well and not wasting a second of camp or life
11. Getting to know kids like Lucy and Madison just through clinics
Top 10 Things I Miss Already About Camp T Counselors
1. Molly coming to country line dancing everyday in just her swimsuit being so excited to dance
2. When Coll spots me across the dining hall and gets this huge smile on her face
3. Trading high of the day notes with Annie every morning
4. Carolyn screaming her input at every campfire, meeting and meal
5. Arielle singing or talking in an accent or making jokes everywhere she goes and how she is so good at making camp fun for the kids
6. Krafty coming and being so excited to tell me stories about his campers or about plans for hip hop or his thoughts about camp life
7. Mary Brody's hugs and the way she is so good at being both an awesome counselor and a great friend
8. Billy Clark's ridiculous competitiveness, lunch workouts, resiliency in the face of the bugs that shall not be named, and awkward dancing all over camp
9. Emily's readiness to be my friend and listening ear at the drop of hat and her almost constant state of laughter
10. Grace Ardery's love for all things angsty and how comfortable she is at camp
11. Eric's laugh when just his chin moves and the way he constantly wants to uplift people and make camp better
12. When Shan screams "Crimson Foot" from across the field as she drives by in the Day Camp truck
Top 10 Camp-isms I Already Miss
1. It is socially acceptable to wear nothing but a one piece swimsuit and running shoes
2. If you have a wolf shirt then I want a wolf shirt, if you have a neon pot-holder headband then I want one too
3. The battle between Turbo Tubes and Push Pops is always the biggest argument of the day, well that or if Carl and Carla the flamingos actually got married or not
4. It doesn't matter what unit you're, how many years you've come to camp or how cool you are-- everyone wants to be your friend
5. Making someone a friendship bracelet is one of the highest forms of flattery
6. A tire can be a toy, twig pencils are cooler than iPads, cicadas sound like a symphony and Diet Coke is a drink from heaven
7. Our lives are scheduled into 45 minute segments
8. By Tuesday, everyone chooses a hug over a high-5
9. It's normal to say, "Hey, want to be best friends?" to people you don't know yet and then actually become best friends
