"We're soulmates" -Samantha

Today I REALLY finished school! All the grades are turned in and my classroom is cleaned up. I did a jump as I left the building today, I thought it was appropriate. And then summer began...

I went to see Sex and the City 2 with four of my best friends. My sister was always a huge fan and watched all the episodes and I think anytime I walked into the houses where she lived in college Samantha, Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda were on a TV set in one of the rooms. Although I wasn't an avid watcher I still love the movies.

The friendships between these women are my favorite part of Sex and the City. I love that through marraiges and children and careers and moves and breakups and illness and more marraiges these women stick together. I realize it's a TV show but that kind of glue between friends in admirable.

I have been incredibly blessed to find friends in so many places in my life. There are friends that I grew up with, people I met at camp, women I joined a sorority with, others leaders I work with now, campers and mentor girls that became friends, adults that I came to admire, and friends that have overlapped into a couple of those groups.

Some of those friendships only last a short season and I'm okay with that. I think that sometimes we meet people just when we need them and it's ok and normal for us to grow apart eventually. It's hard to let people go but sometimes it's necessary.

But there are a small group of friends that I pray I'm friends with...forever. With those people I think it's necessary to put in the hard work of staying friends for years. You've got to pick up the phone and call, write a letter, take a weekend to visit, show up when they really need you, remember to listen, encourage them when they need it, and join them in both their sadness and their celebrations. They are the people that I want to be like when I grow up. These women challenge me to be better, they pray for me when I ask them to, they make me laugh to the point of tears, and they really honestly love me just the way I am.
