Jr Campaigners

KCraig and I have both been meeting with small groups of 8th grade girls this year, but after spending so much time with these kids on the DC trip two weekends ago I just felt like we could do more. When I asked KCraig if she'd want to lead a larger bible study with me she was psyched. We made fliers for Jr Campaigners that day and started to invite girls to read "The Story" with us. So many people wanted in.

We showed up at nine this morning at the Coffee Spoon. Over muffins and lattes we talked about Chapter 1: creation, sin entering the world, Cain and Able, and Noah and the flood. (The Story is a novel form of the bible.) They were full of questions and comments and so invested in what we were talking about.

We told them that we know we're all coming from different places. It's ok if they don't know what they believe yet, none of us have it all figured out and KCraig and I don't have all the answers. But this is a safe place for all of them and their friends to do the work of asking questions, learning more and make their faith their own.

Bob Goff says, "Being engaged is a way of doing life, a way of living and loving. I want my life to be full of abandon, whimsy and love. Something happens when we get engaged doesn't it? It changes everything. This way of life is contagious. Other people will watch us and start seeing life as something more amazing, more whimsical than before." We're not trying to sell anything here, these girls want in because this life is contagious.

I was just writing to my friend about how amazing it is to witness all of this right now. I think it's so much more than this being cool. They're living it out-- coming to Wyld Life, reading The Story, following through with the Lent Challenges to pray, read Mark and listen to Christian music. What if this just keeps rolling? What if more friends come alongside? What if their lives are radically changed? What if we commit to living this out and never look back?
