Ky is moving out of the only house she has ever known. She's sad to be leaving her best friend Josie, the bunk bed room, and her huge yard. The exciting part is that Ky now gets to be a lot closer to school and live right next door to her Aunt & Uncle and her two favorite cousins.
Tonight Ky's parents hosted a memorial for their house. They've lived and built their life together in 96 Bennet for seven years. This house became a place for ministry and tonight we sat in a circle on their living room floor inside their empty house telling stories and drinking apple cider and and eating brownies.
They opened their house for eight different friends to live with them when they needed a place to stay. They hosted dozens of nights of campaigners and leaders had sleepovers before pancake breakfasts. Annie spent 27 months pregnant and watched Ky and Nick grow up. Before they redid their hardwood floors they wrote scripture on the ground. They had a bird fly around the kitchen, high school boys break a hole into their wall, and hosted New Years parties.
They made their house and their family be a house and family for everyone. The first time I walked into their living room I immediately felt welcome. Tonight as we told these stories and Ky ran around screaming and dancing I felt so thankful to know this family and to be a part of this community. I want my home and my family to always be a part of other people's lives like theirs has been in ours.
