Craft Extravaganza

Nothing like some french fries and Diet Coke for a good after school snack. Emily and Alli make me laugh a lot and I'm glad I got another chance to hang out with them. Tonight was wide open for Alli and I both to just create all the things on our must-make list.

The kitchen table became a glorious, unorganized, creativity-driven mess that was the construction site and assembly line for all of our projects.

Project 1: Lyric T-Shirt

First get your t-shirt wet and stretch it over a plastic lid (or anything the will keep the front and back of the shirt separated.

With Elmer's blue gel glue (you have to use the blue kind!) write on the shirt. You can do song lyrics, a quote, your favorite mantra--whatever. Wherever you put the glue you'll keep the dye from changing the shirt.

Wait for the glue to completely dry. This will take several hours.

Soak the shirt in tye-dye for a few minutes--you have to use cold water to make the dye or the glue will come off.

Let your shirt completely dry to let the dye set in.

Soak the shirt in cold soapy for 15 minutes to help the glue come off. Then wash and dry. More dye will come out the first time you wash it so wash it by itself!

Project 2: Sharpie tye-dye

You need a white t-shirt, sharpies, a lot of rubbing alcohol or nail polish removed (a whole shirt will take close to two bottles), a cup and rubber band.

Rubber band the shirt tightly over a cub. Draw on a design with the sharpies. The design will spread over the shirt--use a few drops at a time. Use colors that are next to each other on the color wheel or else they'll turn brown when they mix.

So fun right?

Project 3: Cupcakes

On my Birthday Eve I prepared two batches of funfetti cupcakes for the FBC extravaganza tomorrow. I got to use the Kenney's Kitchenaid mixer which was so fun. I love cupcakes.

Project 4: Jenga Keychains

First drill a hole about a half inch from the top on each Jenga block.

Use magazine scraps or even photographs to modge podge on each side of the block. You can also write on each side.

The most difficult part was getting our rope through each hole. There's no trick to it, just takes a lot of patience. We attached the keychain to the rope.

We crafted late into the night; listening to music, drinking Diet Coke, watching Hulu and talking. I love nights like this when we make time to craft and just be together.

  2. Truth. I should have put a picture of me using the drill. Intense. Good thing I took the "How Things Work Class" at Hope and can build practically anything. Didn't get a picture of the dress. Shoot. I will next time.
