The December Varsity FBC Project: Running With The Raccoons

Varsity FBC is in year two of advanced friendship bracelet making. Our team includes 46 girls from around HSE and across the Midwest. One of my goals for this year is to provide opportunities for these girls to partner together to do small things with great love. Each month I'm going to give them a project where they can make bracelets for a cause. Together we can make a bigger impact than if we were trying to do it on our own.

This Spring, for the first time ever, Camp Tecumseh will be hosting a 5k Run/Walk called Running with the Raccoons. The event will be in support of a counselor alumnus who has been battling cancer. This race will be one way that we can show up and share our joy, hope and love for him and his family as well as helping financially.

We've had Road Runners early on summer mornings, but isn't an official Camp Tecumseh 5K so cool?! I can already picture a race all over camp property with views like some of these...

Tom told me about the Race with the Raccoons last semester and I was immediately excited. He told me that one of the ideas they had was to incorporate friendship bracelets as something people could take home with them to remember the day. He wondered if I could help get the ball rolling. Since the theme is Running with the Raccoons (like Running with the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain) he thought it would be cool if some of the bracelets were black and white for the furry little vermin or pink for cancer.

Varsity FBC got busy and created a collection for the race. Hopefully whoever ends up with these bracelets will wear them as a remind of Camp T, showing up for each other and running the race God has set for us with perseverance.

Bracelets for the December Project were donated by Lulu Black, Lilly Waltman, Audrey Andritsch, Erin Dickett, Elise Ruby, Rachel Kent, Maggie Lorenz, Hadley Hendricks, Caroline Shumaker, Lexie Parrott, Tori Elliott, Sarah Woodward, Brooklyn Seagrave, Julia Dewolf,
Ellyn Hessong and Sarah Wright.

Update: Running With Raccoons 5K was a great success. Hundreds of Tecumseh friends showed up to race around the property, renew old connections and soak up a bit of the best place on Earth. The bracelets were given out as prizes--one to keep and one to give away to a friend.
